What is a porcelain veneer?

A porcelain veneer is similar to a crown, but it does not cover the entire tooth. It requires removal of less tooth structure than a traditional crown. It is mainly bonded onto the front and sides of the tooth, with a little wrapped around the back.

Are porcelain veneers for everyone?

No, not every patient is a candidate for porcelain veneers. At The Dental Lounge, veneers may be part of your comprehensive cosmetic treatment plan. However, any cavities, the way your teeth fit together, and whether you clench or grind your teeth must be taken into consideration.

How many visits does it take to get porcelain veneers at The Dental Lounge?

The actual veneer process typically takes two visits. The first visit is the preparation visit, where the teeth are shaped to receive the veneer, scanned, and temporary veneers are bonded on. The second visit is the delivery visit, where your final veneers are cemented into place. Sometimes there are extra steps at the beginning, where a dental lab will create a wax-up of what your veneers will look like for your approval before proceeding.

Can you whiten your teeth with veneers?

The shade of your veneers will not change if you use tooth whitening treatments. If you plan to whiten your teeth, it is best to do so before porcelain veneers. Then the veneers can be made to match the final shade of your whitened teeth. Teeth whitening is often part of the overall cosmetic dental treatment plan for patients at The Dental Lounge.

How can you schedule an appointment to discuss porcelain veneers at The Dental Lounge?

The first step towards porcelain veneers is to schedule a comprehensive examination at The Dental Lounge in Hampstead, NC. If you'd like to know what to expect at that first visit, we have a great post with more details.
