Does the thought of a dental visit set you on edge? Whether it’s the anticipation of pain, the clinical smell of the office, or the high-pitched whining of the drill, you are not alone.

It is incredibly common to have anxiety about seeing the dentist. Unfortunately, this fear can be overpowering enough to keep people from seeking regular care until they are in pain. Since anxiety isn’t exactly logical, simply telling yourself, "Don't be nervous," rarely works.

At The Dental Lounge, we believe dental care shouldn't be scary. We have designed our practice in Hampstead to create a safe, comfortable environment to help you manage and eventually overcome your dental anxiety.

Building a Foundation of Trust

We know that the dental chair is a vulnerable place. You are laying back, feeling helpless, allowing people into your personal space. It takes immense trust to allow someone in.

We honor that trust by ensuring you are never treated as "just a procedure". You will see the same provider at each visit so you can build a relationship, and we promise that your concerns will always be listened to.

The "Lounge" Difference: A Soothing Space

It is much easier to relax when you aren't in a cold, clinical room. We designed our office to be a soothing space, featuring massaging dental chairs and a customizable Comfort Menu.

When you arrive, you can:

  • Curl up with a warm blanket.

  • Put on noise-canceling headphones.

  • Enjoy your choice of music or TV shows for an elevated experience.

The Science of Scent (Aromatherapy)

Did you know that studies show essential oils can reduce dental anxiety?  We use this science to your advantage.

Each treatment room at The Dental Lounge is equipped with an essential oil diffuser to disperse carefully selected aromatherapy oils. We choose oils specifically for their pleasant scents and their ability to promote relaxation. You can select a specific blend from our menu, let us choose for you, or opt for no scent at all.

Sedation Dentistry Options

For patients with severe dental anxiety, we offer anxiolytics (anxiety medications) to help you relax without losing consciousness. This allows you to remain awake but in a deeply relaxed state throughout your procedure.

We offer two main types of sedation:

1. Nitrous Oxide ("Laughing Gas")

  • What it is: A mix of oxygen and nitrous that you breathe through a mask covering only your nose.

  • The Benefit: It is mild and leaves your system quickly. The nitrous clears your bloodstream completely before you leave the chair, meaning you can drive yourself home and return to work immediately.

2. Oral Conscious Sedation (The "Pill")

  • What it is: A prescription pill (typically diazepam) that you take before your appointment.

  • The Benefit: This provides a deeper level of relaxation, but it does make you groggy.

  • Requirement: You will need a friend or family member to drive you to your appointment, stay during the procedure, and drive you home. You cannot resume normal activities for up to 24 hours.

Let’s Create Your Anxiety Management Plan

Many of our patients who initially require medication are eventually able to undergo procedures without it as they build trust with us over time.

If you are feeling anxious about your next visit to our Hampstead office, please let us know. We will work with you to create a personalized anxiety management plan. We are here to help. If you have never been to see us before, it may help to learn more about what to expect at your first visit.

We aren't open just yet, but you can join our waitlist or give us a call at 910-530-1370. We look forward to meeting you!
